Tasting Notes: Earthy, pungent, and spicy with notes of puer tea, black pepper and wild mushroom.
Sumutra Aceh was the first coffee to be called "specialty coffee" by Erna Knutsen in the late 1960's, except they didn't call it Aceh back then. They called it Mandheling. The naming conventions in Sumatra have always been quite the conundrum as different vendors would label coffees based on geography, ethnic groups, and other arbitrary distinctions. This stew of nomenclature lives on as there is no standard setter, and little impetus for change.
Rest assured, this coffee, named geographically matches the classic flavor profile that made Sumatra famous. Hailing from the northern province of Sumatra, this wet hulled coffee brings all the classic complexity, boldness and richness to the table. Cult followers rejoice.
